Cuban Minister of the Economy purged by the Castro dictatorship now under criminal investigation

The communist Castro dictatorship isn’t done pinning the blame for its massive failures on purged Minister of the Economy Alejandro Gil. The regime has dispatched its sock puppet president to announce criminal proceedings against Alejandro Gil. The former minister is said to face “serious charges” and they are suggesting he is part of an “enemy campaign.”

Diaz-Canel announces criminal proceedings against deposed Minister of the Economy Alejandro Gil

The Cuban regime announced the initiation of criminal proceedings against ousted Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil Fernández, who is facing “serious charges,” according to a memo signed by Miguel Díaz-Canel, which threatens to act with “rigor” and “intransigence” and foresees a supposed “enemy campaign.”

“As a result of a rigorous investigation, serious errors committed by the former Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil Fernández, in the performance of his duties have been determined,” says the official memo from Miguel Díaz-Canel, published by the official press and read on television.

“Taking into account the level of verification of the facts, and at the proposal of the Attorney General of the Republic, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and the Council of State approved that the competent organs of the Ministry of the Interior initiate the corresponding actions for the total clarification of these behaviors,” it adds.

According to the text, since the beginning of these actions, the implicated party acknowledged “serious charges” that are not detailed and states that “consequently” Gil Fernández resigned from his position as a member of the Central Committee of the Party and as a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power.

Díaz-Canel says that, “as part of the unchanging ethics of the Cuban Revolution during these 65 years,” the leadership of the Party and the Government “has never allowed, nor will it ever allow, the proliferation of corruption, simulation, and insensitivity.”

“Under this principle, it will maintain, from legal perspective, the permanent confrontation, transparency, and zero tolerance towards this type of manifestations that affect our people, aware that the higher the level of trust placed in a cadre, the greater the rigor and intransigence with which actions will be taken in the face of events of this nature,” he points out.

Before that happens, Díaz-Canel predicted that “the enemy will unleash a new propaganda campaign” against the regime and demanded loyalties: “Our people, as they have accustomed us, will stand firm beside their Party and Government, faithful to the legacy of the commander in chief and the teachings of army general Raúl Castro Ruz,” Díaz-Canel concluded.

Gil’s downfall occurred after dire economic news, such as the acknowledgment of the failure of the Ordering Task, implemented in January 2021; the collapse of the economy at the end of 2023, and the announced failure of the “paquetazo,” which the Government unsuccessfully sells as “measures to correct distortions,” despite it resulting in the further impoverishment of Cubans and the exacerbation of the already critical inflation.

Last September, Cuban economist Rafaela Cruz anticipated Gil’s downfall for DIARIO DE CUBA. In an opinion article, she warned that among the minister’s latest functions would be “to absorb popular discontent over the announcement that things will continue to worsen in Cuba.”

“Gil is the minister of the Ordering Task, of designed inflation, of the dollar at 120 pesos that now costs 300, of monetary unification, of MLC stores, of blackouts, hunger, the flight of hundreds of thousands of Cubans…,” enumerated Cruz.

“His lies regarding MLC stores are legendary: his ‘2023 will be a better year’ and the crude way in which he presents national accounts with growth before the National Assembly when the debacle that the people are experiencing admits no nuance. Gil is the minister under whose rubrics self-employment was destroyed to assemble with its remains a ‘private’ sector to the Government’s liking.”

“In summary, Gil’s record as minister does not deserve dismissal, but a trial for genocide, but until the Cuban Nuremberg arrives, what we have is the Revolution devouring one of its most incompetent sons, or one of the most loyal, if we consider how well he has carried out the mission of not doing what is best for the economy, but what is best for the dictatorship, and disguising, packaging, and selling it as positive changes,” she noted.

After his dismissal, Gil Fernández staged a final act of “public sycophancy.” He thanked Díaz-Canel for having worked with him and placed himself at his disposal.

“Thank you, President @DiazCanelB. It has been my pride and an honor to work alongside you in the service of our people and our Revolution. As always, I am at your service, to continue #WorkingForCuba,” Gil wrote in a message in which he also included the hashtags #ISupportMyPresident and #UnitedForCuba.

Díaz-Canel had given a “grateful embrace” to Gil and the rest of the dismissed ministers. The leader then said they “had devoted their energies in very difficult years for the country” and promised “tasks to continue doing for Cuba.”

  1. What I find amazing is how many Cubans are willing to become part of that regime that has demonstrated time and time again that it betrays even its most loyal sycophants: Camilo Cienfuegos, Huber Matos, Ochoa, Robaina, Alarcon, Eusebio Leal Spengler, etc… They think that it’s not going to happen to them, until inevitably it does.
