We’re having Issues with our comments at the moment and I have contacted our host for assistance. Please bear with us while we get to the root of the problem and address.
Usually, and as has happened before, comment troubles and the blog being down and inaccessible are the result of DDOS attacks, where an extreme amount of comments and pings are sent to the site in the hopes of overloading the server and causing the site to go down. These DDOS attacks are not coincidence nor are they mistakes, they are for the sole purpose of shutting down the site.
Update: Comments are back up, folks. Yap away!

Pardon my ignorance, but who is DDOS?
A DOS (“denial of service”) or DDOS (“distributed denial of service”) attacks are similar. In a DDOS attack, backbones are targeted to bring whole sectors of the interent down; in a DOS attack, it may be a website, a network, or a host. Here’s a good description from Wikipedia:
You know how they say “Las ratas de dos patas”? Well, they not only call in to annoy and insult radio shows, they also have access to the net.
Maybe we can try doing a DDOS on Fidel. One way for him to die.
Maybe we can try doing a DDOS on Fidel. One way for him to die faster.
Thank you George. Now if you could help me with my problem here at work. First the hard drive crashed and now it looks like the motherboard has a problem. Another day shot to hell…message to corporate: just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean it’s a good buy. Okay, back on topic, is he dead yet?
Ziva, buy a Mac! The new iMacs are da bomb!
🙂
You cultist you, I knew you were going to say that. Anyway, I was being pissy, but just the thought of a MAC…shudder…I’m over it now. 🙂
Any chance you’re the Ziva from Navy CSI?
And thanks everybody for answering my Q.
Greetings everyone, I’ve been reading Babalu on and off for a few weeks (life DOES get in the way of our dreams sometimes,) anywho, I had not realized how addictive the comments are, until they could not be accessed earlier today, being Cuban I should’ve known not to take ANYTHING for granted, as we say: “Uno no sabe lo que tiene hasta que lo pierde,” I’m sure we can agree on that.
So my pseudonym is Angel Garzon and I would like to take this opportunity to express my solidarity with you, my fellow Cuban-Americans and all freedom loving Cubans and non-Cubans. Hopefully, God willing, we may be able to celebrate the fulfillment of our hopes and dreams for Cuba. ¡Viva Cuba Libre!!!! God bless.
Val,
And here I thought it was George and I going back and forth that brought down the system.
Glad you’re all back in business.
Given current events, it is quite….interesting this DOS attack’s timing.
Val-
How come no thread on the Barack Obama Miami-Herald Op-Ed today? It definitely merits discussion-in it he calls for the end to the Cuban Embargo.
There’s a Ziva on Navy CSI? Nope, not me.
Val my sources in Cuba hablan de un complot para matar a Babalu..Mantente alerta
I too would recommend a Mac for its UNIX underpinings, but make sure you get AppleCare so Apple still gives you the time of day when the hardware self-destructs 15 months after purchase.
…typed from my top of the line “Bridget Riley” PowerBook.
Lucha,
If you had listened the Babalu Radio hour or the recorded podcast Obama’s position would be no surprise. Joe Garcia who is quoted in the Herald piece came on the show and basically said what the Dem strategy is. I don’t think it will work.
