  1. Of course, if you go to the New York Times Online, they are ceaselessly building up the “anticipation” as if this were a genuine election. Needless to say, once Cuba’s rubber stamp parliament selects the “new leader” the NYT’s will then go into a full frontal attack consisting of editorials, opinion pieces and “investigative” reports asking for a lifting of the embargo and normalization of relations with the newly democratically elected Cuban president [which is how they will describe it].
By the way, don’t discard that Alarcon or Lage will be selected. Of course, this would mean that they would be puppet presidents with Castro, Inc. pulling all the strings behind closed doors, but this is a very real possibility, since it would then give a more legitimate appearance of a real transition in Cuba something that passing the baton from one brother to another doesn’t.

  2. Raul chose Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, a Stalinist of the old guard, as second in command. This should put an end to any hope for changes that some people still had.

  3. Change?
“Raúl Castro’s first move as president was to introduce a measure allowing his brother to rule on all major decisions in the future. The National Assembly unanimously agreed.”
I wonder how this will be reported?
